What is SMC building material? What core components does it consist of?
SMC building material is a high-performance thermosetting composite material specially developed for the construction industry, made of unsaturated polyester resin, glass fiber, low-shrinkage additive (LSA), flame-retardant additive, filler and other auxiliaries, formed by high-temperature and high-pressure compression molding. It integrates the advantages of lightweight, high strength, corrosion resistance and weather resistance, and is widely used in various building components, replacing traditional building materials such as metal, concrete and ordinary plastic in many scenarios, and becoming a new type of green and efficient building material.
What are the core advantages of SMC building materials compared with traditional building materials (metal, concrete, ordinary plastic)?
Compared with traditional building materials, SMC building materials have obvious comprehensive advantages, which are more suitable for complex construction environments:
① Lightweight and high strength: The density is 1.5-2.0g/cm³, only 1/4 of steel and 1/3 of concrete, which is convenient for transportation and installation, while the tensile strength is close to that of steel, impact-resistant and not easy to deform, ensuring structural safety;
② Excellent corrosion resistance: It can resist corrosion of acid, alkali, salt, seawater, rainwater and industrial chemicals, and is suitable for harsh environments such as coastal areas, chemical plants and high-salt fog areas, without rusting, aging or peeling;
③ Good weather resistance: It can adapt to the temperature range of -50℃ to 160℃, resist UV radiation, and will not fade, crack or deform after long-term outdoor use, with outdoor service life up to 20-40 years;
④ Flame retardant and safe: The flame retardant grade can reach B1, A level or even low smoke and halogen-free (LSZH) grade, the oxygen index is ≥32%, no harmful gas is released when burning, and it meets the fire safety requirements of the construction industry;
⑤ High dimensional stability: The shrinkage rate is low, the structure is tight, the surface is flat and smooth, and it can be integrally formed with complex shapes or textures, avoiding the problems of splicing and deformation of traditional materials;
⑥ Green and environmental protection: It does not contain harmful substances such as halogen and phosphorus, no volatile organic compounds (VOC) are released during use, and it can be recycled and reused, conforming to the green building development trend;
⑦ Low maintenance cost: It is easy to clean, does not need anti-corrosion, anti-rust and other treatments, and basically does not need maintenance during long-term use, which greatly reduces the later maintenance cost.
