Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

+ Is PLM-125 suitable for Automotive Class A surfaces?

Yes. PLM-125 is a premium low shrinkage SMC molding resin that is highly compatible with Low Profile Additives (LPA). During the compression molding process, it effectively mitigates curing shrinkage, ensuring the final automotive body panels achieve a perfectly smooth, wave-free Class A surface ready for high-end automotive painting.

+ Why do some SMC and BMC products exhibit color mottling?

Color mottling in SMC/BMC products stems primarily from five core issues: poor pigment dispersion, phase separation, uneven flow/temperature distribution, non-uniform distribution of fibers/fillers, and the migration of low-shrinkage additives. This phenomenon is particularly prone to occurring in light-colored or vivid shades.

Mottling is the cumulative result of multiple interacting factors involving materials, processing parameters, and equipment. To address this, priority should be given to troubleshooting four key areas: color paste quality, LPA phase separation, mold temperature uniformity, and the thickening/maturation process.

+ Why do SMC and BMC materials tend to "flow" or sag during the summer?

High temperatures and humidity directly disrupt the thickening system, the viscosity of the material sheet, and the equilibrium of the curing reaction. This is a common industry issue; both BMC and SMC compounds become significantly more susceptible to sagging, excessive flash during compression molding, drooping at corners, and material leakage.

By implementing appropriate measures—specifically reinforcing the thickening system for summer conditions (adding inhibitors), storing materials at low temperatures, and shortening the maturation period—issues related to material flow and sagging can be completely resolved.

+ Do you supply bulk SMC/BMC resin for international distributors?

Absolutely. As a top-tier SMC BMC resin manufacturer in China, POLYMER supplies bulk quantities via 220kg steel drums and 1000kg IBC tanks to global compounders and automotive OEMs. We provide highly competitive factory-direct wholesale pricing and rigorous batch-to-batch quality control.

Instructions for Use and Storage Conditions
Inhibitor
Due to accelerated reactivity caused by high temperatures in summer, please add an appropriate amount of inhibitor during use to ensure the proper thickening and storage stability of the BMC/SMC compound.
Transport
Transportation must strictly comply with the provisions of Chapter V of the Regulations on the Safety Administration of Hazardous Chemicals. Handle with care to prevent impact or leakage.
Sealed Storage
Before use, the resin should be stored in its original tightly sealed packaging (avoid opening and damage to the drum) in a dry, ventilated indoor room maintained below 25°C.
Light Exposure
Increased temperature and light exposure will significantly reduce the shelf life and trigger premature polymerization. Avoid direct sunlight and keep far away from industrial heat sources.
Flammable
Unsaturated polyester resin liquid containing styrene is highly flammable. Keep strictly away from open flames, welding sparks, or static discharges. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed protocols.
